Not My Usual Path

Stepping outside my usual realm, I started my first landscape painting over the weekend. I’m learning a lot and having fun so far. I was just starting to add color to the underpainting when I stopped down.

Originally, I was planning on starting a larger figurative painting, but I felt like I needed to step away from my usual look/process to ascertain my direction. Every once and awhile, I need to take a breather in order to make sense of my thoughts. Taking on a small project like this, sends sparks of inspiration flying while working. I’d rather produce ten subpar landscapes that I learned from, than one forced figurative painting with no life in it.
